purct Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 I have just purchased a 2002 Galaxy 2.3i but has only got one key :16: and there are two drivers...... I was wondering if anyone was able to confirm if its possible to register/re-program new keys via VAG or OBD-II or if I can get another key cut and programmed from VW? I already know what frauds will say cos they tried to sting me for Quote

tpurch Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 have you done a search for what your asking, over the years there has been numerous posts on the subject.didnt think these keys could be cloned?was your last car a vw?and how much did vw charge you for the cloning?Hi gregers, This is user "purct" using a different account (seems to be some technical issues with my account at the moment and I am locked out  ) anyway..... I did search the forum but couldn't find the answer (may have been my search was to specific!), however I after much searching on the net for 2 days, I found out that you can't clone the Galaxy MK2 keys and VAG will not do it cos its Fords own PATS.... I called auto locksmiths after reading on there website that they can cut and program keys for mk2 galaxy and that they re-program the fords PATS too, but they were not interested (Guy on the end of phone just said cheaper to take it to Fords!). Ford's charged me Quote
big_kev Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 I didn't think there was any difference with mk1 & mk2 pats systems on the galaxy. Also I thought the chips were VW not Ford and therefore there should be no difficulty in cloning them ( if this is possible ! ). Quote
gregers Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 if thats right KEV,then maybe purct has hit on something that will get a few of us out of the shite, lol Quote
tpurch Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 (edited) if thats right KEV,then maybe purct has hit on something that will get a few of us out of the shite, lol From what I found the transponders keys are different. year : Technical SpecGalaxy 00> : Laser Cut Blade, Transponder ID44, Phillips Crypto, AD100/MVP Programmable, Non CloneableGalaxy 95-00 : Laser Cut Blade, Transponder ID33, Phillips Fixed, AD100/MVP Programmable, AD90 Cloneable but I have just found this link www.silca.biz/en/33866_230178/transponder-t28_en_pdf.pdf that rather suggests that the key can now be cloned.....if thats the case I am gutted cos it would have been much cheaper...wish I had just gone back to VW in ashford, kent now - just to double check.... Guess its a question of finding the right locksmith or dealer with the gear to clone the key. Edited March 11, 2009 by tp1_1uk Quote
big_kev Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 The ID44 chip cannot be cloned, however it can be replaced by a different non-philips chip which can be cloned to match the original philips ID44 chip. The crypto chips have two numbers in them one which can be written over and one which can't.Allegedly ( I have no direct info. on this yet ) the PATS has both numbers stored. This also applies to the ID42 chip used in MK1 Galaxys ( at least after 1997) which is also a philips crypto chip and again cannot be directly cloned. You need one of these Copier Quote
tpurch Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 OK, I get it now.....I was lucky because the MK1 Galaxy was a pre-1997 it didn't have cripto transponder so I could get the key cloned......later models need to be registered on ECU because they can't be cloned. Quote
